ancient women, wood canoe
slow canal in Timbuktu
deep dark water, city stew
she reaches in, eyes crystal blue
ideal angels shift and croon
inner wisdom, out of tune
murky water, hot in june
brackish stench or hearty stew
a man can master, sword and spear
can he drink deeply, without fear?
finding wisdom in the depth
untold loss, of time he slept
staring forward, tears he wept
longing deeply, soul inept
looking inward, open doors
asking kindly, under floors
prying gently in the night
whisper softly, birds take flight
soul awakens, light released
integrated, and in peace
ask the inner anima
and you shall receive
